Hotels - TripAdvisor Caution

Doing your Trip Advisor homework
There are countless resources available on the Internet to view details of hotels and thousands of pictures and videos to accompany them – not least Trip Advisor. Trip Advisor is brilliant resource for finding hotel reviews for pretty much anywhere in the world and is certainly a valuable tool in helping to find the right Vegas hotel for you.
However, it is worth taking some of the reviews with a degree of salt, particularly in relation to the following:

  • The type of hotel and its location – Looking briefly at the ‘top 10’ highest ranked hotels in Las Vegas shows that around half are not genuine ‘megaresort’ hotels that people most often choose to stay at, nor are they in the middle of the action of the Vegas strip. For example, Staybridge Suites, Platinum Hotel and La Quinta are all likely to be fabulous hotels in their own right and suitable for, say business travellors. However, if you’re looking for a genuine Vegas holiday experience you’re likely to be very disappointed if you book to stay at one of these off-strip properties. Think of it as staying at an amazing hotel by JFK airport in New York or Heathrow in London – wouldn’t you feel disappointed that you weren’t near Times Square or Oxford Street?
  • The odd bad review – due to the size of the hotels in Vegas and the number of rooms, even the best hotels are bound to get bad reviews from time to time, but it’s better to look at the bigger picture by checking out a number of reviews and reviewing the current ‘thumbs-up status’.
